CBD: Technical Jargon Explained

 

We like to help our fellow CBD fans here at CBD Guernsey (CBD.gg), so, to save you time googling what some CBD words mean we thought we’d start a list so that you can find them all in one place.

 

Don’t worry as the world of CBD evolves and more research takes place,and more technical words come out the woodwork we will try to update this as often as possible.

 

Anandamide

A derivative of arachidonic acid that naturally occurs in the brain (as well as some foods). It acts as a messenger, playing roles in appetite, depression, memory and fertility; one of the two known endocannabinoids in the body.

 

Anxiolytic

A medication or other intervention that inhibits anxiety.

 

CB1

A cannabinoid receptor found primarily in the nervous system (nerves in the brain and spinal cord)

 

CB2

A cannabinoid receptor found primarily in the peripheral nervous system (nerves outside the brain and spinal cord)

 

CBD

Short for cannabidiol; a phytocannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. It is not psychoactive.

 

CBD-A

Short for cannabidiol-acid; an acidic cannabinoid, the naturally occurring raw form of CBD produced in the plant.

 

CBD Guernsey (CBD.gg)

Guernsey’s first retailer dedicated to CBD products, stocking a wide range from tinctures to lotions.

 

CBN

Short for cannabinol; a phytocannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. It is produced when THC is metabolised and has little to no intoxicating effects.

 

Endocannabinoid

Naturally occurring cannabinoids in the human body.

 

Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

The system that nerves and brain cells use to communicate, guiding and protecting vital physiological processes. It is a natural system found in our brain and body. It’s especially important in the brain and immune system, playing regulatory roles in many physiological processes such as appetite, pain-sensation, mood and memory.

 

Entourage Effect

Refers to the idea that biologically active compounds can have enhanced biological activity when administered together with otherwise inactive compounds, compared administering isolated active compounds alone.

 

Hemptourage Effect

Refers to the ‘entourage effect’ of compounds present in hemp-derived CBD oil to optimize health and wellness.

 

Homeostasis

A healthy state that is maintained by the constant adjustment of biochemical and physiological pathways.

 

Non-psychoactive

Does not affect the mind or mental processes.

 

Phytocannabinoid

Plant-based cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant.

 

THC

Short for tetrahydrocannabinol; a phytocannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. It is responsible for intoxicating effects on humans and animals. (It’s psychoactive)

 

Tinctures

In basic terms they are alcohol infused CBD. They’re a simple, smokeless way to dose, and very popular because they are easy to make, store, transport, and use.

 

Vape

To inhale and exhale the vapour produced by an electronic cigarette or similar device
